Goodman ductwork repair in Houston typically runs $150 – $650 installed, and we carry the most common Goodman-compatible duct components on the truck for same-visit fixes. If you’ve noticed weak airflow from certain vents, a musty smell when the system kicks on, or rooms that never quite cool despite the AC running constantly, the ductwork itself is often the culprit, not the Goodman unit. Most Houston homeowners discover a duct problem after a few unusually warm nights when one bedroom stays hot while the rest of the house cools fine. We can usually have a technician out the same day, with a written price in your hand before any work begins.
Which Goodman Models This Applies To
Goodman doesn’t manufacture ductwork itself, so the repair parts we use, plenum connections, flex duct, collars, dampers, sealing materials, are matched to your Goodman system’s airflow and tonnage rather than a specific model badge. That applies whether you have a Goodman GSX, GSZ, or GMV line, a Daikin fit system, or an older GMP or GSH model from before Goodman restructured its residential lineup. The compatibility question isn’t about which Goodman model you have, it’s about the duct dimensions and design load of your home’s distribution system.
One Goodman-specific gotcha we run into regularly in Houston: homes with Goodman systems installed as part of new construction in the 2000s and 2010s often have flex duct runs that were undersized for the unit’s rated airflow. Builders saved money by running minimal-diameter duct, and the Goodman blower compensates by working harder and wearing out sooner. When we assess a duct repair, we measure static pressure and cross-check the duct diameter against the Goodman blower chart, something a generic handyman typically won’t do. For parts, we use OEM-spec sheet metal, flex duct, and mastic from suppliers who supply the Houston HVAC trade, because aftermarket duct fittings that don’t seat properly on a Goodman plenum leak air from day one.

Signs Your Goodman Ductwork Is Failing
- Some rooms run hot or cold no matter how you set the thermostat. This is almost always a supply duct that has disconnected or collapsed, sending conditioned air into the attic or wall cavity instead of the room. In Houston attics, flex duct sags and separates at the collar connections when the heat degrades the adhesive tape over a few summers.
- Dust deposits around the supply registers or a fine layer of dust on furniture within days of cleaning. A torn or poorly sealed return duct pulls attic air and whatever is in it straight into your living space. If the return side is compromised, the Goodman blower is drawing from an unfinished attic, not just your home.
- A whistling or rushing-air sound from specific vents or from the air handler closet. That’s air escaping through a small tear or a loose connection under pressure. It gets worse as the duct continues to peel back.
- Higher electric bills during the same months you’ve run the AC before. Duct leaks in a Houston attic mean your Goodman condenser runs longer to hit the same setpoint. We see utility bills jump 20% to 30% when a significant duct failure goes unaddressed through a summer.
- A musty or mildew smell that concentrates when the fan runs. In Houston’s humidity, a leak on the return side pulls in damp attic air, and the moisture collects in the duct lining. That smell is the duct growing something you don’t want blowing through the house.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For the Houston market, here’s what you should expect to pay for the most common Goodman ductwork repairs:
- Duct sealing (mastic and mesh on a leaking joint): $150 – $350, depending on how many joints and how accessible they are
- Replacing a disconnected flex duct run: $250 – $550, including new duct, collars, and proper insulation
- Repairing a torn return duct or collapsed section: $200 – $500
- Replacing a damaged supply plenum: $450 – $700, including sheet metal fabrication, insulation, and sealing
Every repair we do includes the parts, the labor, the time to properly reseal and test with a static pressure check, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If the repair fails within a year, Victor Mancini or one of our technicians comes back and corrects it at no charge, no argument. You’ll also get a written price before we start, because you shouldn’t have to guess what a duct repair will cost after the work is already underway.
DIY or Call Us?
There are a few things you can safely check yourself: walk the attic (carefully, with proper footing) and look for obvious disconnections where flex duct meets a metal collar, or for sections of duct lying flat and crushed under stored boxes. You can also feel for air leaking around register boots where they meet the ceiling drywall. What you shouldn’t do is go up there with a roll of duct tape and a plan to patch things up. Duct tape, despite the name, fails on ductwork in Houston attics within a season. Proper repairs use sheet metal screws or mastic, and any repair done wrong upstream pushes the same air leak downstream to the next weak joint. Our recommendation is to call (832) 371-9862 if you find anything questionable. We’ll give you a straight answer over the phone and a written quote before any tools come out.
FAQs
Realistically, flex duct in a Houston attic lasts 15 to 20 years before the outer jacket degrades and the inner liner starts to tear, and tape-sealed joints often fail within 8 to 10 years. Your Goodman system itself can outlast that, which is why many of our Houston calls are on homes where the AC is fine but the ducts have failed.
Most duct problems are repairable, isolated tears, loose joints, a crushed section, a disconnected run. Full replacement makes sense when there are multiple failures, signs of mold inside the duct liner, or the original duct was undersized for the Goodman system it’s attached to. Call (832) 371-9862 and we’ll tell you which one you’re looking at, with no pressure either way.
A single joint repair or a short flex duct replacement typically takes 1 to 3 hours from the time our technician arrives. A full plenum replacement or multiple-run repair can take most of a day. You’ll know the timeline before we start, and the price won’t change at the door.
We stock the common items, flex duct in standard diameters, collars, mastic, sheet metal for plenums, and we keep them on the truck, so most Houston duct repairs are done on the first visit. Specialty-sized rigid duct or unusual transition fittings may require a supplier run, which we’ll tell you about up front.
